Check out the 2018 Summer PD Opportunities

We know how busy your lives are and wanted to give you an advance copy of this summer’s professional learning opportunities. We may add some additional dates and workshops but this will allow you to plan your summer vacation around the curriculum, summer schools and professional growth workshops that interest you.

The calendars for elementary and secondary are linked on the right side and will be updated once registration is opened so check back often and let us know if you are interested in something that isn’t currently offered.

MAISA ELA units now available on DEC for grades K-5

Oakland Schools led the development of the MAISA ELA Common Core-aligned units of study that were piloted and reviewed by teachers statewide. This multi-year project resulted in a comprehensive K-12 curriculum that is aligned not only to the standards, but also across grades. These units are not scripts but are guidelines for teachers; we encourage educators to adapt them for their population and context.  These units are now linked in DEC for grades K-5 under ELA Resources in MP 3.  Check out all the resources available for your grade level.  These are Open Educational Resources (OER), meaning that you can use and adapt the materials free of charge.  Enjoy!

Math Academy learners

Elementary teachers work together after school on ways to encourage productive talk in math by brainstorming sentence stems to use in supporting student discussions. The Dearborn Math Academy is facilitated by Resource Teacher Rita Stergalas and Math Committee co-chair Veronica Jakubik.
